The Texas music scene has produced some of my very favorite songwriters so this announcement is met with great enthusiasm here. Badlands FM/KBSO 94.7 will be broadcasting a new weekly show featuring Texas and Americana singer-songwriters, The Shiner Sessions with Katie Lee. Confirmed so far are Grady Skelton (July 26), Rob Baird (August 2), Owen Temple (August 30), Drew Kennedy (September 20) and Walt Wilkins (September 27).

Tom Imber, CEO of Championship Communications announced today that its radio station – Badlands FM / KBSO 94.7 in Corpus Christi – will be the home of the newly created radio show, “The Shiner Sessions with Katie Lee,” a weekly ShinerStage singer-songwriter showcase of Texas and Americana artists that begins taping on Thursday, July 26 from Home Sweet Shiner in historic Shiner, Texas. “The Shiner Sessions with Katie Lee” will feature acoustic performances and artist interviews from the newly built stage inside the eclectic venue and gift-shop that has “Texas Libations & All Things Shiner” on tap. The first session performance features Gamagrass Records artist Grady Skelton and will air Sunday, July 29 at 7 p.m.

“It’s an honor to be part of ‘The Shiner Session with Katie Lee,'” said Imber. “This series will be bringing some of the best artists in Texas and Americana Music into the Shiner area. It will be great exposure for the artists as well as expanding the Texas Music movement. By airing the show in Corpus, as well as on the KBSO website and the Badlands Radio app, which is being used all over the U.S and in 65 countries, we are confident that the Shiner community will receive a great boost in tourism and attract many fans of live Texas music.”

Badlands FM plans to establish deep ties to the community and will serve as a positive force in building the presence of live music in Shiner. Reminiscent of old-time shows aired in the Golden Age of Radio such as the “Grand Ole Opry,” “King Biscuit Time” and “National Barn Dance,” “The Shiner Sessions with Katie Lee” will entertain and inform audiences with the best in Texas music, drawn from a wide variety of genres that reflect contemporary society and the state’s diverse forms of musical expression.

Katie Lee, who was born in Corpus Christi but settled in Shiner at an early age, will bring her positive energy and a passion for music to the show as its host and creator. An employee of the Shiner Chamber of Commerce, Lee is a knowledgeable ambassador for the city and will lend her flair for pageantry (she is a former Miss Shiner) to highlighting all the historic charm the city nicknamed “The Cleanest Little City In Texas” has to offer.

“I’m very proud to be hosting ‘The Shiner Sessions’ and am excited about the exposure it will give my hometown of Shiner,” said Lee. “The city is well known for being the home of Shiner Beer but is has such appeal for so many other reasons. While we’ve had named artists play here over the years, we’ve never had a radio presence to help us broadcast all the city has to offer.”

Home Sweet Shiner was chosen as the venue for “The Shiner Sessions with Katie Lee” when its owner, Carrie Moore, expressed to Lee an interest in bringing live music to her shop as an additional offering to residents and out-of-town guests. As a widow introduced to Texas and Americana Music by her late husband, she revealed that fulfilling this dream allows his memory to live on.

“I am so excited to be bringing live music, which I love, to the community who embraced me wholeheartedly after my husband passed away,” stated Moore. “The radio show idea took off quickly so I was happy to find a staff of talented and dedicated individuals to bring it all together. They have become fast friends with a mission and Shiner, as well as the surrounding communities, will benefit from their knowledge of Texas artists and enthusiasm for our city.”

Artists confirmed to appear include Grady Skelton (July 26), Rob Baird (August 2), Owen Temple (August 30), Drew Kennedy (September 20) and Walt Wilkins (September 27).

Tickets for the taping of “The Shiner Sessions with Katie Lee” will be sold at Home Sweet Shiner, located at 107 E 7th Street in Shiner, Texas, and online at www.theshinersessions.com and www.homesweetshiner.com. Prices will vary depending on artist; the first taping with Grady Skelton will have a $5 cover. Seating is limited so arriving early or buying tickets in advance is advised. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
