Taylor Swift’s ‘Red’ Leads Billboard Top 30 Country Albums of 2012 Chart

As expected, Taylor Swift‘s most recent album, Red, tops the Billboard Top 30 Country Albums of 2012 Chart. It deserves to top this list only if you consider this to be a country album, which I don’t; a criticism I have of two more albums in the top 10 (I will leave it to readers to work out which). But, to further assert her dominance in record sales, Swift also lands two other projects in this list: Speak Now at #18, and it’s companion Speak Now: World Tour Live at #21.

Impressive 2012 sales were also still recorded by Luke Bryan‘s Tailgates & Tanlines, which was released on August 9, 2011. This is probably in no small part due to his very successful tour run with Jason Aldean, whose own My Kinda Party album lands at #6 despite having been released over two years ago on November 10, 2010.

The importance of a pop following is shown, not just by Swift, but also by Lionel Richie (Tuskegee, #3), Lady Antebellum (Own the Night, #4), and Carrie Underwood (Blown Away, #5), who all sell the majority (or at least a significant minority) of their albums to pop music fans.

Among my personal favorites who made the list are The Band Perry‘s self titled debut album (#11), Tim McGraw‘s Emotional Traffic (#23), Lee Brice‘s Hard 2 Love (#25), Kip Moore‘s Up All Night (#27), and Dierks Bentley‘s Home (#28).
