The second day of Delta Country Jam 2014 belonged to Keith Urban. He closed out the party on May 24, 2014, with a spirited performance.

Even when he is not in front of his own audience, Keith Urban has been at the top of his game for long enough that he knows just how to play it. With big hits stacked floor to ceiling, the set built momentum and created quieter moments in all the right places. Backed by his trusty and talented sidemen Chris McHugh, Jerry Flowers, Brian Nutter, and Danny Rader, he was free to experiment and improvise, knowing that his band would more than keep up.

The show was built around a string of #1 hits, including ‘Long Hot Summer,’ ‘You Gonna Fly,’ ‘Stupid Boy,’ Without You,’ and ‘Days Go By.’ Most recent single, ‘Cop Car,’ got a huge response, and judging by the reaction to the next one, ‘Good Thing,’ there is another hit just around the corner!

A fan, who showed up in the front row despite having a broken foot in a cast, got herself called up on stage for a “selfie,” and special audience requests added two songs to the show, ‘Making Memories of Us’ and ‘For You,’ which was sent out to all military personnel in honor of Memorial Day.

Keith Urban makes performing look so easy, and his show should be required study material for any aspiring entertainer. Two camera platforms set up in front of the stage were almost immediately co-opted as a way of getting closer to the audience. During ‘Days Go By,’ he set off on one of his “walkabouts” through the venue, ending up partying with the people in the lawn section to finish out the song. He closed the show with ‘You Look Good in My Shirt,’ and with a young girl in the front row tightly embracing the signed guitar he just gave her.

Keith Urban heads to Australia next and will be on the road into the fall. Check out keithurban.net for the latest tour dates and ticket info.
