Sibling acts The Roys and The McClymonts helped celebrate the Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge 51st birthday this afternoon, November 23. The brother-sister bluegrass duo and the Australian trio of sisters performed during the birthday bash on Nashville’s lower Broadway.

Familiar with The Roys’ recorded material, I was deeply impressed by their live set. Wonderful musicianship combined with perfect vocals and harmonies made for a truly absorbing performance. This is contemporary bluegrass of the highest standard!

Having been kept in the loop by an Australian friend (thank you, Ellen!) I have been listening to The McClymonts for a few years. They have recently moved to Nashville and this afternoon was my first chance to catch a live performance. It was the first of many, I hope. The sisters not only bring infectious melodies and stellar vocals, but also a lot of energy. They have so much fun on stage that it’s impossible to remain unaffected. Playing an afternoon outdoor show is hard enough. Having to perform material that most there are totally unfamiliar with should make it harder. This did not deter The McClymonts as they worked their way through a fast-paced set. The audience reaction said it all; these ladies gained many new fans today. Catch them live as soon as you can!
