Thomas Rhett is closing out the It Goes Like This album cycle with the final single, ‘Make Me Wanna.’

Even though Rhett is going around saying how he was influenced by hip-hop, this new single might have you reaching for the disco floor. Everything from the loose, groovy guitar, the soft drums, and the organ floating through the background, is borrowed from the 1970s. I am sure Jay Joyce had great fun building this arrangement, but how much sense does it really make to sing about getting it on in the bed of your truck (and this all “down some old back road,” naturally) over a Bee Gees track?

Content-wise, you have already heard this song. About 1248 times. The topic itself isn’t the problem, the not even trying to approach it in a new way is – I mean, “Hop on out / Let the tailgate fall / Get drunk on you with no alcohol,” really? And while not as offensive as ‘Get Me Some of That,’ Rhett still hasn’t learned that women have a mind of their own and the entire song is all about what the guy wants.

This is an uncreative lyric inexplicably paired with 1970s pop. Which means it will probably be a big hit.
