Folk duo The Bird and The Bear, comprised of Mirthe Bolhuis and Garry Wood, celebrated the release of their new EP, Build a Fire, last night in Franklin, TN.

“It was nice to have so many people who backed this project on IndieGogo come out for this,” said Garry Wood. “It feels like it all came full circle, and I am really excited to see where this EP will take us.”

In a packed Kimbro’s Pickin’ Parlor, the folk duo premiered the new material along with fan favorites. The set included a well-received rendition of ‘Breathe,’ the title track of their previous EP; the beautiful ‘Anything but Gone;’ the lively ‘Brighter Now;’ and a spirited version of new single ‘As Soon As Winter Comes.’

As they prepare for a big year, the duo expanded their live set with electric guitar, including on Bob Dylan‘s ‘Lay Lady Lay,’ and they were joined by Jen Starsinic on fiddle and banjo player Connor MacLeod. In a nod to Nashville’s history, they closed out the evening with Johnny Cash‘s ‘Ring of Fire.’

At the end of the evening, a happy Mirthe Bolhuis reflected, “It was very special to have so many close friends here tonight. It was a long adventure to make this EP happen, and I am so thrilled that it’s finally here!”

The Bird and The Bear’s new EP, Build a Fire, will be available on February 17, 2015.

Connect with the duo via Facebook and Twitter, and head to iTunes next week for the new music.
