Tin Pan South 2013: Brian White, LoCash Cowboys, Ben Caver

Tin Pan South is pretty much my favorite festival, and it’s mainly because of evenings like this. I have seen countless songwriters rounds at Douglas Corner Cafe but this may have been the rowdiest so far! Host Brian White brought his friends LoCash Cowboys and Ben Caver, along with some special guests, and turned this listening room into a honky tonk.

Ben Caver uses his rich R&B voice to sing country songs and the combination is incredibly captivating. He opened with the mischievous ‘What Your Mama Don’t Know,’ and presented his Kenny Rogers cut, ‘America,’ co-written with Nicole Witt and Corey Crowder. He was joined by Megan Conner and they got a huge, and well-deserved, response to the beautiful ‘The Aftermath.’

Duo LoCash Cowboys opened with their Keith Urban smash, ‘You Gonna Fly,’ and closed with their Tim McGraw hit ‘Truck Yeah.’ They also had the audience grooving to their upcoming single, ‘Chase a Little Love,’ and brought out Jeffrey Steele for a stomping rendition of ‘Hey Hey Hey.’ Steele also played ‘What Hurts the Most,’ a song that never fails to make me cry, especially coming soon after LoCash’s own heartbreaking ‘Best Seat in the House.’

Starting out with his Trace Adkins cut ‘Rough & Ready,’ Brian White also brought the romance with his Gary Allan song, ‘Drop,’ written with Joel Shewmake and Bruce Wallace. Wallace himself joined in with new song, ‘My Baby,’ which has a great story behind it (more on Wallace here), and White also invited his extremely talented wife Karyn Williams in on the round to sing her new song, ‘Only You.’

Check out some photos of the evening below.
