Nashville is home to a great many, and many great, publishing companies. But few, if any, can rival the roster of worldclass songwriters at ole. For Tin Pan South 2013, the company gathered some of its finest talent and Bruce Wallace, Dave Turnbull, Marty Dodson, and Ryan Tyndell entertained at The Bluebird Cafe on April 4, along with guests Jeff Coplan and Brett Jones.

Worldclass songwriters write worldclass hits and there were many among the songs showcased. Some of the songs Marty Dodson added to the round were his Billy Currington cuts ‘Must Be Doin’ Something Right,’ ‘Let Me Down Easy,’ and his Kenny Chesney smash ‘Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven.’ He also included a new song, ‘I Lied’ (of which, by the way – Dear Jake Owen, please cut this song). Dave Turnbull gave a great rendition of his Brad Paisley song, ‘Anything Like Me,’ and Chesney hit ‘The Boys of Fall.’ He tried out several new songs on this connoisseurs crowd, and ‘Daddy’s Dream’ in particular was a real standout.

Ryan Tyndell had every single person singing along to his Eric Church co-write ‘Springsteen,’ and got some people at the bar to dance to Charlie Worsham‘s ‘Could it Be.’ The new songs he introduced were ‘Bourbon in Kentucky,’ written with Hillary Lindsey and Gordie Sampson, and the outstanding ‘Five,’ which I hope to hear on the radio soon. The incomparable Bruce Wallace kicked off his evening with a song of which the chorus came to him in a dream, ‘My Baby.’ He demonstrated that songs can grow from any experience with ‘Charlie’s Cab,’ and raised the temperature a little with Gary Allan‘s ‘Drop,’ written with Joel Shewmake and Brian White. He closed the round with the hilarious Trace Adkins cut ‘Damn You Bubba’ (Thank you Candy Dodson for requesting this, it is now my favorite Bruce Wallace song!).

There were also special appearances by Jeff Coplan, who sang new song ‘Sneaky Jesus’ and his Love and Theft #1 ‘Angel Eyes,’ and hit songwriter Brett Jones who impressed with a great rendition of his Jason Aldean cut, ‘Crazy Town.’
