Tracy Lawrence’s 6th Annual Turkey Fry Provides Thanksgiving Meals

Tracy Lawrence and his friends spent this morning, November 23, at the Nashville Rescue Mission for the 6th Annual ‘Mission Possible’ Turkey Fry. More than 450 birds were prepared during the morning and the event also helped raise awareness of the great work the Mission does.

Now in its sixth year, the turkey fry grew from a simple idea. “This is something I was doing at home for friends and family,” Lawrence explained to UCN. “When I came down here to the Mission and we got to talking about what we could do together; it evolved from there.”

Over the previous years, more than 5,000 turkeys have been donated, totaling about 35,000 meals and over $100,000 was raised in the process. There is never a shortage of friends who want to lend a hand. “We get so many people who help and volunteer their time,” Lawrence continues. “And the men who live here get a chance to come help out. I get to hear a lot of testimonials and see people who graduated from the program here at the Mission. I get to hear their stories about how they reconnected with their children and got their lives back on track. It’s very gratifying.”

After helping to ensure many in need were provided with Thanksgiving meals, Lawrence made plans for a traditional family holiday. “We will have about 30 people at the house so I will go home this evening and start making all the dressings, sides and pies,” he said. “I’ll get up early tomorrow morning and start frying the turkeys for the family, then we’ll fellowship and watch football all day!”

Lawrence’s new single, ‘Heaven for a While,’ taken off current CD The Singer, will be pushed to radio soon. A brand new project is also in the works. Expect to hear more about this around June 2012.
