It’s such a cliche phrase, but Rainey Qualley truly is a breathe of fresh air. She is not jumping in the bed of a truck in “cut-offs” but is writing real and meaningful songs. Sure, there is consideration for what type of music is popular, but there is no pandering to it.
In our interview, she was honest about her approaches, and speak intelligently to life and music, and to a life in music. Turn Down the Lights is a very strong piece of work and I cannot overstate how excited I am to see where her career is going to go. Also, if someone with the experience of Russ Zavitson says that she is the best singer he’s ever worked with, you know you should be paying attention!
As I mentioned in the interview that I had questions for producer Russ Zavitson and John Ramey too, I was given the chance to chat with Zavitson too. This is especially an interesting one for developing artists. If you work with the right producer for you, you will be allowed the freedom to ask for what you want. This short interview demonstrates the ideal working relationship, and it’s a great addendum to the interview above.
