Eric Church has emerged as the clear winner of the 13th Annual Country Music Critics Poll. The country-rocker was named Artist of the Year, Singles Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year. Church’s latest project, Chief, won over the critics with its strong sense of self as the record seemed to ignore every Music Row convention.
The Best Album accolade went to Jamey Johnson’s Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran, and it is indicative of most critics’ more conventional tastes that other top-voted records were those by Dwight Yoakam, Iris DeMent and Kellie Pickler.
Reborn quartet Little Big Town were voted Best Group, Miranda Lambert was named Best Female Vocalist and Jason Aldean was voted Best Live Act. Kacey Musgraves was named the Best New Act.
