Dierks Bentley Kicks off Riser Album Era with ‘Bourbon in Kentucky’

Dierks Bentley starts the countdown to the release of new album, Riser, with the project’s first single, ‘Bourbon in Kentucky.’ The song, written by Ryan Tyndell, Hillary Lindsey, and Gordie Sampson, explores deep loss and the (in)ability to cope with it.
‘Bourbon in Kentucky’ features harmonies from Kacey Musgraves, and will officially be added at country radio on June 10.
“I’ve never heard anything like ‘Bourbon’ before,” Bentley says. “I really love the angst of it. I’ve been there before where you can’t drink your way through a heartache or a broken heart. There’s such an aggressive lonesomeness in this song.”
‘Bourbon In Kentucky’ is definitely a bold choice as a lead single, but that was the whole idea.
“I don’t want anyone to have any preconceived notions of what the rest of the album’s going to sound like,” Bentley explained. “I’d just like this first song out there to kind of shatter any expectations.”
Rolling Stone got a behind-the-scenes look at the recording of ‘Bourbon in Kentucky’ and you can check out the video at rollingstone.com.
Bentley is currently out on the road playing sold out arenas and amphitheaters on the Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley: Locked & Reloaded Tour through October. For more information and to stream ‘Bourbon In Kentucky,’ visit www.dierks.com.
