Tim McGraw‘s Big Machine debut, Two Lanes of Freedom, has become his 14th album to debut at #1 on the album chart. The disc tops the Billboard Country Albums chart this week as well as the All-Genre Digital Albums chart
McGraw has heard plenty of nice things said about his new album, which includes more different musical influences than he has ever used on one record. Some of the critics’ praise:
“If this is an indication of McGraw’s next phase, then let Freedom ring again and again.” USA Today
“…a major new start for McGraw…” Los Angeles Times
“McGraw has sold over 40 million albums, earned 32 No. 1 singles, won three Grammys and collected over 30 other music awards. Two Lanes of Freedom is about to up the numbers in all of those categories.” Edmonton Journal
“McGraw is a master of balancing lighter fare and introspection, seamlessly shape-shifting from life of the party to brooding philosopher, emoting the trickier, riskier byways of pain and regret as skillfully as he approaches the more common themes of romance and freewheeling good times.” Billboard
“McGraw is a savvy artist and picker of songs, wisely choosing those that will keep him commercially viable but continuing to stretch his legs.” Boston Globe
Up next for McGraw is an all-star concert special, ACM PRESENTS: TIM McGRAW’S SUPERSTAR SUMMER NIGHT, taping April 8 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and broadcast at a later date on the CBS Television Network. He will be handpicking the hottest music of summer and calling on his friends to help kick off the 2013 touring season. He’ll launch his own TWO LANES OF FREEDOM 2013 TOUR, presented by Pennzoil, in Birmingham, AL on May 2 and continue on to 30 cities through July. The U.S. trek will also feature emerging artists Brantley Gilbert and Love and Theft.
