I’m not quite yet a music chart cynic, so stuff like this still tends to bothers me. After a (admittedly well-executed) marketing campaign, George Strait‘s ‘Give it All We Got’ becomes his 60th chart topper this week. It jumps from #6 to #1, which doesn’t happen on country charts these days, not without help. It’s not that charts are fully organic otherwise (they’re not), or that Strait doesn’t deserve this incredible milestone (he does!), but if the manner in which it was achieved is so blatant I wonder in what meaningful sense this can be said to be a genuine #1. The spin increases for Lady Antebellum’s brand new single, ‘Goodbye Town,’ were 1213, for Strait last week it was +2236. But anyway…here is the rest of this week’s Mediabase Country Singles Chart:
