Last week, Billboard launched a new composite chart which ranks artists by their presence on several of the company’s most influential charts.
The Artist 100 chart will give an idea of the most popular artists across genres. With the cross-overs and genre-blending we have seen lately, in every music genre, this is actually a pretty cool and useful chart to keep an eye on.
It will make it clearer which artists have big release weeks but then cannot sustain sales, and which acts manage to keep songs or albums charting. Over the long-term, there could be useful data to capture here that will help identify which marketing strategies are the best shot at chart longevity.
Sam Smith claims the #1 spot this week as his album sales continue to rise. Nashville is represented by duo Florida Georgia Line who jump up from #23 to #4, boosted by the success of new single, ‘Dirt.’
