Love Will… – Trace Adkins (Show Dog-Universal, 2013)

UCN-rank-4

When you first hear the title of Trace Adkins brand new album, Love Will…, your first thought might be, well, it’s an album of love songs, and you would be right; however these are not your typical mushy, warm and fuzzy love songs. Yes, there are a couple of those mixed in, but over all, this is an album that speaks to the great and powerful things that love can accomplish. The well-chosen order of the tracks keeps tossing you from one aspect of love to another.

My personal favorite that I fell in love with as soon as I heard it is Every One Of You. The writers of this song did a great job of capture how every woman has more than one side, and not in a bad way! They praise the different characters that each woman carries inside of her. They speak of Sleeping Beauty, Marilyn Monroe and I Love Lucy. This song just brought a huge smile to my face on the first listen.

Trace plays to his strengths on this album, especially on opener ‘When I Stop Loving You,’ and the charming Lee Thomas Miller and Jimmy Yeary cut ‘Say No to a Woman.’ Nashville songwriters trio The Beagles (Ward Davis, Rick Huckaby, Matt Nolen) contributed, and sing harmonies on, ‘So What if I Do,’ perhaps a future single if the lyric video is any indication.

For this album, Trace enlisted some serious star power to accompany him. Watch The World End is a beautifully written song about spending the end of days with the one you love, on which Trace is joined by Colbie Caillat. Exile joines Trace on Kiss You All Over and the Harlem Gospel Choir accompanies Trace on the title track Love Will….

Of course, all of these love songs are made just that much better with Trace’s booming baritone voice that makes women everywhere sit up and take notice.
