‘Easton Corbin’ – Easton Corbin (Mercury 2010)

If you have heard someone say country music just ain’t what it used to be, they need to hear Easton Corbin. ‘A Little More Country Than That,’ written by Rory Feek (of Joey+Rory), Wynn Varble and Don Poythress is the debut single. The first time I heard it, I turned up the volume thinking “I like this song! Is it George Strait? Or Joe Nichols? Who is this?” Then I hear the name ‘Easton Corbin’ and think ‘Hmmmm’. Easton said of this song “Even though I didn’t write it, this song identifies who I am. It shows character and that’s important where I’m from. You learn to say ‘yes, ma’am and ‘no, sir,’ and to open the doors for the ladies.”

Now that his self titled debut album has been released (March 2, 2010) and his first single is in the top ten, more folks are noticing the newcomer. The album was produced by Carson Chamberlain who started out in the music business as the band leader and steel guitar player for the late Keith Whitley. Chamberlain, also a songwriter, co-wrote six songs on the album, including ‘I Can’t Love You Back’. It is a tender song about a man who has lost his love and nothing can bring her back – “I can love you for all I’m worth. To the ends of the earth, but I just can’t love you back.”

Corbin co-wrote four of the eleven tracks on the album and ‘The Way Love Looks’ is by far the best of the four. ‘Leavin’ A Lonely Town’ is another that we should hear on the airways. ‘This Far From Memphis’ is a nice traveling song co-written by Corbin, Chamberlain and Mark D. Sanders. Refreshing traditional country music sums it up! Corbin is sure to become a rising star!
