Here. We. Go.

7:00-Great opening tune from Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Eric Church. Kinda wanted to see Eric Church play alone, but I’ll take what I can get.

7:04-Cute parody by Brad & Carrie. You guys is so funnayyy. ;D

7:07-YESSSS!!! Gangnam Style made an appearance! I love it! Carrie’s a good straight player to Brad’s “comedian.”

7:09-Oh snap, Brad did you just explain MOTORBOATIN’ to the crowd??

7:10-What is Lisa Marie Presley doing here? How does she always get invited to these events?

7:11-SINGLE OF THE YEAR: I’d love to see Springsteen or Pontoon win this, but I know it’s gonna Jason Aldean…..

7:12-YESSSS!!! LBT Get their first Single Of The Year! That song just seemed to come out of nowhere and it’s a great song! Glad to see them get some!

****************************COMMERCIALZ***********************************

7:18-Costume change for Carrie. Brad and Carrie….oh no….HAHAHAH! Little Jimmie Dickens looks like the happiest man alive right now between those foxy nurses! xD

7:18 Part 2-Tim McGraw. I like how his voice has matured over the years. It’s gotten deeper and when I listen back to his earlier stuff, I like the songs better back then, but I wish he’d rerecord them. I dig this song “One Of Those Nights.”

7:22-VOCAL DUO OF THE YEAR-Thompson Square! Either them or The Civil Wars winning would have been okay by me. There are a lot of great duos coming up!

7:24-Miranda Lambert-“Fastest Girl In Town.” She looks out of her element somehow. She sounds pretty good but there’s something I can’t quite put my finger on. She’s one of my faves too.

7:31-Zac Brown Band-“Goodbye In Her Eyes” (?) This proves why they’re one of the top bands on the road and will continue to be. They play and sing their asses off! AND THEY’RE PLAYING LIVE!  They’re getting a standing ovation because in this day and age, a real band that plays their asses off will never go out of style.

7:36-Dierks Bentley-“Tip It On Back” Good song. Better than his outright party songs. He’s one of my favorite voices in modern country.

*****************More Commercials******************************

7:41-Target commercial with Taylor Swift in it. I saw another Papa John’s commercial where they were giving her album away. Is she not making enough money that she has to tie in with corporations? She just had the highest debut week of album sales that any record has had in ages. This is the kind of stuff that makes people no longer believe in musicians anymore.

7:44-The Band Perry-“Better Dig Two”   Great song, but the hair band production sucks. They’re a good band, why muck it up with tracked guitars?

7:48-Eric Church-“Springsteen”-His voice sounds great, but I can’t tell if the rest of the band is live or tracks. Either way, they sound good. I like that a song named for Springsteen doesn’t SOUND like a Springsteen ripoff, “Born To Run” interpolation notwithstanding. Eric’s one of the most interesting artists to come out of Nashville in awhile, so I’m hoping to see him take home a few awards tonight.

7:52-Eli Young Band-“Even If It Breaks Your Heart”-I’m excited about this song because I love that EYB is finally getting some props, but also that Will Hoge (writer and original performer of this song) is finally getting his due for the fantastic songwriter he’s been for the last 10 years I’ve been listening to him and hoping he’d get over in some way. Great that they both are getting out there!

7:54-SONG OF THE YEAR-Pleeease let it be Even If It Breaks Your Heart. I like a lot of the songs here but I’d love to see Will Hoge get some recognition.

7:55-“Over You” wins Song Of The Year. My least favorite song in this category, heart-wrenching or not.

*********************************Victoria’s Secret Commercial. God Bless Amurrica!***************

8:02-Brad’s solo rendition of the Andy Griffith theme was AWESOME!

8:03-Taylor Swift “Begin Again”-Nice setup onstage. Average song for her. She’s had some really great ones and this one’s somewhere in the middle imo. Maybe I need to hear it again. Seems pretty personal, which she’s really good at. Her singing sounds pretty on point though.

8:08-Little Big Town “Pontoon”-Been looking forward to this one! They sound fantastic! When you hear a band like them or Zac Brown Band it really sets the bar high for performers. Well written, well performed, FUN, what more could you ask for?

**************Commercials. Man I want to see Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter so bad!************

8:17-Luke Bryan-“Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye” I like this song, but I still think of him as someone’s goofy little brother. I can’t him seriously when he sings about girls somehow. xD But he’s got the hip shakes down. Hahahaha! Ninja edit: Did someone just throw panties at him? xD

8:20-ALBUM OF THE YEAR-If Eric Church doesn’t win this, there is no God.

8:21-Eric Church Wins ALBUM OF THE YEAR! Good! Philosophers and holy men of all stripes will be happy. ;)

8:23-Hunter Hayes-Really dig this song and that this dude can play. His voice sounds like he just inhaled helium but his pitch is good! I would have liked if they’d just had him play solo with the piano. It would have been really poignant and really showcased his talents.

8:26-Congrats to Toby Keith on the win for the Red Solo Cup video!

*****Commercials. So JC Penney decided to drop the “enney” and just go with JCP? What’s that crap? All these Apple commercials are making me regret my recent Vaio purchase a little. :( *********

8:31-Carrie you look smashing in red! And I like hearing you sing country rather than Pat Benetar sounding stuff. Congrats to Connie Smith on her Country Music Hall Of Fame induction!

8:32-Faith Hill “American Heart” (?)-Not a bad tune. But as Randy Jackson would say, “You a bit pitchy dawg.” Ninja Edit #2: Is that Vince Gill singing backup? Eh, guess not. Heard a couple clams in the piano, but at least we know it’s live. I almost appreciate mistakes in this age of over edited, over autotuned music.

8:36-Brantley Gilbert “Country Must Be Country Wide” – Time to go pee. I lived through the 90’s once, I don’t need current music that reminds me of it. I like the drummer’s mohawk though. I was actually hoping he’d play “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do.”

There’s a radio station with the call letters “WUSY?” Hahahaha!

*********Commercials. I love that cat in the Litter Genie commercial. He looks so mean. In a snarky gay man sort of way.********************

8:43-Keith Urban & Zac Brown-“Georgia Woods”-Love this song, but man, what’s up with Keith’s voice? I know he had surgery recently, but that was awhile back and it’s only one song. :P Kinda disappointed by this performance but only because Keith sets such a high standard. His guitar playing is on point as usual though!

8:47-The Band Perry have really poofy hair.

8:48-BEST NEW ARTIST-Hunter Hayes! Good for him! It’s good to see them give the award to someone who HASN’T put out three albums and been around for 5 years. Why is Lee Brice in “Best New Artist?”

8:49-Brad Paisley “Southern Comfort Zone”-Nice improv at the beginning! Man, his voice is on point! Brad’s killin’ it! Hopefully he picks up an electric guitar when the band kicks in!EDIT: Funny, his singing got a little less when he grabbed the electric. EDIT#2: A choir? Go big or go home I guess.

**********Commercials. Thinking about how I want my friend/drummer Mark Bromer to host the CMAs someday and how the producers would freak when he apologized to the crowd for coming in smelling like “gin and failure.”*******************

****8:58-Okay, so Sears commercial posing as a romantic comedy? Effin’ GOLD! Sears should get a CMA for that!*****************

9:01-Carrie Underwood “Blown Away”-Not gonna lie, I don’t really dig this song that much. The spirit of Randy Jackson once again returns to say, “Eyo, Carrie, it was a bit pitchy dawg.” NINJA EDIT: Wow that high note was…. O_o …………………SECOND NINJA EDIT: Wow. When Taylor Swift blows you off the stage vocally, you know you may need to hit the practice room. O_O

9:06-VOCAL GROUP OF THE YEAR: Little Big Town! Love it! Good on them. They deserve it. Do award winners/athletes ever BLAME Jesus if they lose an award or drop a pass?

9:08-Jason Aldean “Take A Ride”-Is it a law that you have to use that same guitar riff he uses in the verse on a country rock song nowadays? He’s revolutionized modern country with that sound, but it seems like he’s stuck in a rut with this kind of song. Hicktown, She’s Country, and now this. They’re starting to sound interchangeable.

*************Commercials. Singing, dancing Mini-Wheats. I’m hungry.******************

9:15-Kelly Clarkson & Vince Gill “Don’t Rush”- So Kelly Clarkson puts out one song with a banjo on it and a duet with a country singer that sounded like a Whitesnake song,  and now she’s a country singer? I call bull-ish. She can’t sell a record in the pop world so now she’s going country. Vince is on point as usual. One of the most talented stars country has seen, which isn’t to say Kelly isn’t talented. I like this song a lot, but why is this on this show? PLAY THAT GUIT-FIDDLE SON!!!!!

9:21-MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR-Blake Shelton. No surprises here, but Blake’s definitely one of the best voices in country today. AND HE’S DRUNK! I love it! I like this guy! Is it wrong that I kind hope he curses accidentally? xD

***************Commercials. Angel Fantasies. Victoria’s Secret, you make tv worth watching************

9:27-Kenny Chesney “Come Over”-Not a bad performance. Nothing mind blowing, but well done. Why does he still even wear the cowboy hat? It’s lip service.

9:32-Connie Britton, Hayden Pannetwhateveritis, Kelly Paisley-That’s a lot of white teeth in one place!

9:33-FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR-Glad Miranda Lambert won. Of that pack, she’s the one who I thought really deserved it. How Kelly Clarkson even got nominated is a mystery to me.

*****************Commercials. New. Bond. Movie. That is all.************************

9:40-Willie Nelson Tribute/Lady Antebellum “Always On My Mind”-Chuck Kelley is such a great singer and this performance was so flat. Made me really appreciate Willie’s voice. Pitchy performance too.

“Crazy”-Hillary picked things up a bit with this. Her pitch was good but tone, not so much.

Blake Shelton/Keith Urban “Whiskey River” – Blake bringin’ the heat and Keith sounds better here somehow. Keith’s solo reminded me a bit of the Ranch days!

Faith Hill & Tim McGraw “Good Hearted Woman” – Faith sounds great, and Tim has kind of a Waylon thing going on. Their voices blend really well together. I think Faith’s leather pants should get a CMA too. ;)

Willie!! “On The Road Again” – Man, he still sounds great! A dang 70 year old man and I’d say he blew almost everyone off the stage (until that guitar solo). But man his voice sounds TIGHT! Go Willie!

**************Commercials. ANOTHERTWILIGHTMOVIE???? YESSSSS!!!! Good lord, how many are they gonna make? :P **********************

I’m bummed the Taylor Swift/Civil Wars tune didn’t win Musical Event Of The Year. “Feel Like A Rock Star” was just a 3-minute commercial for Kenny & Tim’s tour, while “Safe & Sound” was an artistic milestone for all involved. Keep it classy CMA voters. :-/

Buuuuuuut……..

9:56-ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR – Aaaaand Blake wins. “Footloose” playing? Really? Good for him. He’s had a big year. He’s kept a level head it seems like, despite all his success and for that, I hope it continues for him.

That’s it! It’s over Johnny! This is Adam James Deiboldt. I’m out, but first I want to thank Liv Carter for letting me grace your eyeballs, thank YOU for reading, and thank Jesus for, well, just because. Cheers y’all! ;)
