While the Country Music Association is mainly visible during high-profile events such as CMA Fest and the CMA Awards, the organization also spends a lot of time supporting the group of people who form the very foundation of the music industry: songwriters.

Every year, the writers who managed the difficult feat of penning three #1 hits in a 12-month period are honored with a CMA Triple Play Award. Earlier this week, January 29, twelve songwriters were recognized: Dierks Bentley, Rodney Clawson, Eric Church, Brantley Gilbert, Ben Hayslip, Dave Haywood, Josh Kear, Charles Kelley, Shane McAnally, Eric Paslay, Neil Thrasher and Chris Young.

CMA Board Chairman Troy Tomlinson, also President and CEO of Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville, hosted the luncheon at Nashville’s Marathon Music Works. He has the honor of presenting the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame with a $250,000 donation on behalf of CMA. The money will help to build the new facility at the new Music City Center.

This year’s CMA Triple Play Award recipients are:
Dierks Bentley for ‘Am I The Only One,’ ‘Home,’ and ‘5-1-5-0’
Rodney Clawson for ‘Drink On It,’ ‘Drunk On You,’ and ‘Take A Little Ride’
Eric Church for ‘Drink In My Hand,’ ‘Springsteen,’ and ‘Creepin’’
Brantley Gilbert for ‘Dirt Road Anthem,’ ‘Country Must Be Country Wide,’ and ‘You Don’t Know Her Like I Do’
Ben Hayslip for ‘Honey Bee,’ ‘I Don’t Want This Night To End,’ and ‘I’m Gonna Love You Through It’
Dave Haywood for ‘Just A Kiss,’ ‘We Owned The Night,’ and ‘Dancin’ Away With My Heart’
Josh Kear for ‘Dancin’ Away With My Heart,’ ‘Drunk On You,’ and ‘Blown Away’
Charles Kelley for ‘Just A Kiss,’ ‘We Owned The Night,’ and ‘Dancin’ Away With My Heart’
Shane McAnally for ‘Alone With You,’ ‘Come Over,’ and ‘Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye’
Eric Paslay for ‘Barefoot Blue Jean Night,’ ‘Even If It Breaks Your Heart,’ and ‘Angel Eyes’
