Cody Johnson and Aaron Watson were the big winners at this year’s Texas Regional Radio Music Awards. The two took home the evening’s biggest awards and cemented their Texas super star status.

Read all about it in the press release:

Aaron Watson’s powerful song, “July In Cheyenne,” about champion bull rider’s, Lane Frost’s real life beyond the movie, “8 Seconds,” scoured three awards. Elsie and Clyde Frost attended the show. “The most important line in this song is at the end,” said Lane’s mom as she accepted Video of the Year on Watson’s behalf, “If your washed in the blood someday you’ll see him again and it won’t be in the rain and the mud in July in Cheyenne.” Everyone in the room stood up and cheered!

Cody Johnson, who is drawing huge crowds with his own brand of traditional Texas Music received, “Entertainer of the Year,” and “Male Vocalist of the Year.” The Randy Rogers Band received two awards for “Group of the Year,” and “Album of the Year.”

Sonny Burgess, who was tricked into coming to the awards as a presenter, was totally shocked and cried tears of joy as he received the “Humanitarian of the Year,” for his work with Cook’s Children’s Child Life Zone funded by Troy Aikman and Garth Brook’s Team Mate Program that helps to teach music to kids while in the hospital at Cook’s Children’s Hospital. The kid’s can learn by playing instruments, listening to the jukebox and can even record in a live recording studio with help from producer Burgess. “It’s the kids and all of the you that keep me going,” said Sonny, “I’m just so honored.”

The evening capped off a fun weekend at the new venue of Choctaw Casino for many Texas Music Industry members that attended. The awards were hosted by The Rankin Twins and Deryl Dodd. The complete list winners is listed below.
