Event Review – Tracy Lawrence Fan Club Party 2011

13 years ago Liv Carter 3

CMA Music Fest is not just a time for the fans to come see all the stars, it is also a time for the stars to say ‘thank you’ to the fans. This year’s Tracy Lawrence Fan Club Party was a celebration for several reasons: the annual reunion with friends from distant states (and countries!); Tracy’s 20th anniversary in the music business; and the release of the new CD, The Singer.

Opening with new song ‘Hard Times’, Tracy presented much of the new material including ‘Tender Enough’, a gentle love song; lead single ‘The Singer’; ‘Cloud of Dust’, featuring Rick Huckaby; and the humorous-yet-accurate ‘Pills’. He was joined on stage by Darin Favorite (electric guitar), Flip Anderson (acoustic guitar) and Joe Caverlee (fiddle). Tracy referred to the new album as “more personal than ever” and at every opportunity thanked the fans for sticking with him during the wait for new music. Following the performance, Tracy stayed around to chat, giving generously of his time to some of the people who have made the last 20 years possible.

Tracy Lawrence fans really are a great bunch! I ended up in conversation with many of them and their enthusiasm was infectious. It was great to hear how far some people had traveled, perhaps none further than TL fan Ted and his wife who had made the journey here from England. And how is this for loyalty? One of the group of ladies who presented Tracy with a commemorative poster has attended every single one of the 20 fan club parties!

As part of CMA Music Fest, Tracy will appear at LP Field on Sunday night, June 12.

During this event, Tracy also introduced Lacey Brown. She boldly opened with a unique rendition of ‘Ring of Fire’ and nailed it. Lacey just recently released her EP and played some of the new songs to this most friendly crowd. Stand-outs were the EP title track ‘Let It Go’ and the really remarkable ‘Love Is a War.’ Lacey will perform as part of CMA Music Fest at the Hard Rock Cafe on Saturday, June 11, at 11am.

For the occasion, Tracy was once again joined by Rick Huckaby. Readers who have been around for a while will know he is a songwriter who, around here, can (almost) do no wrong. Along with assisting on all tracks, Rick played some of his own songs including ‘She Gets Me High,’ ‘I Got You Covered,’ and even took a request from the crowd, ‘Ain’t Enough Blacktop.’ Rick also mentioned a new project he has been working on about which you will hear much more soon!
