Our reporter on all things Carrie Underwood, Erin, traveled to Nashville to attend Carrie’s fan club party and watch her play the Opry during CMA Fest. Here is her account:

Fan club party

This was my first Fan Club Party and I was so happy to be apart of it. My friends and I got to the Nashville Municipal Auditorium at 7 AM and then we waited till the doors opened at 2PM. It was a long hot wait but it was so worth it in the end. While waiting Katie and I decided to take a stroll around the venue, we got to the backstage doors thinking that if Carrie did show up that would be the place she would do it at. After a while my other friends joined us and then a few minuets later Carrie’s bus pulled up. We only stayed there for a few minuets until a security guard came over and shooed us away. It was pretty cool to see it though.

Around 1 PM the people inside came out to check tickets and ID’s. After we got inside my friend and I bolted and ended up front row on the end, but I moved around and ended up in the center between the barricades. We waited till 3 PM and then finally Nan Kelly was introduced as the host of the party. She came out and introduced Carrie who started right in with singing ‘Twisted’, here’s the set list, not in order and if I got anything wrong please let me know:

Set List:
‘Someday When I Stop Loving You’
‘Mama’s Song’
‘Temporary Home’
‘Twisted’
‘Jesus Take the Wheel/How Great Thou Art’
‘Cowboy Casanova’
‘Look At Me’
‘Get Out Of This Town’
‘Summer of 69”
‘Undo It’

I loved everything she sang of course, she was amazing as usual her vocals on the ballads were strong and powerful and on the up-tempo songs she was having fun and again had strong vocals. She chatted a bit before each song and said “There’s someone who thinks this song was inspired by him” and smiled before she did ‘Mama’s Song’. I will say that ‘Look At Me’ was so pretty and I’m very glad to have heard it live for the first and only time she’ll sing it.

After the songs Carrie and Nan did a brief Question and Answer Session where they chatted about the tour, Mike and Ace (Nan said at one point she kept calling Ace “Spike” instead) They also gave away tickets to the Opry to the person who traveled the furthest, Nan could only find one of the 2 tickets, Nan mentioned Ace and Carrie said that Ace does like to take things out of people’s purses, Nan joked that Ace would hopefully be looking for the other ticket in her purse on Carrie’s bus.

The rest of the Q&A was very fun and Carrie loosened up a little bit and seemed to be having an awesome time. After that they said that they were going to play a game that they did last year, they brought 12 fans up on stage and did a combination of Carrie Song, Cover Songs she’s done and favorites of Carrie’s. She was so adorable to up there with everyone and everyone who was on stage got a prize no matter what place they came in. Carrie did the job of holding the microphone up which for me would have been nerve wracking. All of the contestants did a great job to.

I was so sad to see the party come to an end but I did see Carrie posing backstage with fans and saw Mike pacing waiting for her to be done. I went and waited by the backstage area before getting my shirt and saw Nan running back to get ready for the Opry, she’s so sweet and did an amazing job. I had an amazing time at the party and want to thank Carrie and those who put it on for us.

Grand Old Opry

I know most of you heard the radio broadcast but being at the Opry for the first time was amazing, I had pretty good seats overall but managed to move down for Trisha Yearwood, The Band Perry, and Carrie of course. Everyone who played that night was amazing. I got down to the stage for Carrie and was on the right side behind the barricade Carrie came on last and opened with ‘Cowboy Casanova’ then went onto sing:

‘All American Girl’
‘Temporary Home’
‘Jesus Take The Wheel/How Great Thou Art’
‘Undo It’
‘Before He Cheats’

She wasn’t moving around the stage too much every so often she did but she mainly stayed in one spot and danced a bit but she had a ton of energy and was really belting them out. She chatted for a bit about how she loved being at the Opry. She looked beautiful to in her black sparkly dress and got us involved with singing ‘Before He Cheats’ and ‘Undo It’. She got a standing ovation at the end and told everyone to drive safely and thanked us for coming out.

After the show I noticed the band staring to leave and I really like Shawn so I decided to see if I could get a photo with him, I called his name and asked him, he said real quick came over bent down on stage and took a photo, a huge thank you to Alyson for taking it to, before he left he said “Good to see you” and I thanked him for the photo he threw guitar picks out to the others who were waiting. I felt special since I was the only one who took a photo with, I said Hi to Chad and asked him how he was doing and then said to have a good time on the road.

I had an amazing time and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to spend it with.
