Fan Stories: Taylor Swift Treats Fans Like Royalty

Here at Urban Country Blog, we love artists who love their fans. Whether you like Taylor Swift‘s music or not, the girl treats her fans like royalty and surely everyone thinks that’s a wonderful thing! A little while back we wrote about the ‘marriage proposal’ by two Taylor fans at Country Thunder. I loved the story and asked them to get in touch. Eric and Caleb, together with Eric’s mom Robin, were kind enough to talk a bit more about that day, the reactions they got and about Taylor’s music.

UCB: What did you expect meeting Taylor would be like, and what was it really like?

Eric: I was really excited to meet her. I had everything planned on what to say to her when I got up there. When we were waiting in line I wasn’t nervous at all, but when we were next to meet her I just froze and forgot everything I was going to say. I’m lucky I remembered my name! She was so nice. She gave us each a hug and she loved the shirts. Meeting her was a lot better than I had imagined.

Caleb: I expected meeting Taylor Swift would be the highlight of my summer…and I was right! Even though I was so excited and was bragging to my friends the entire week before, actually meeting her was 100 times better than I could have ever imagined. I thought I was going to be relaxed and able to talk to her, but as soon as she walked up to us and gave me a hug I completely froze. It was an awesome experience for me and Eric and was like a dream come true.

UCB: What has the reaction or your friends and family been?

Eric: At first our friends didn’t believe that we met her. Then when they saw the pictures they claimed we just photo-shopped our pictures together. They finally did believe us after the picture appeared on Taylor’s Twitter page and all over the internet. Everyone is very excited about us meeting her and getting our picture on her Twitter page. Seeing the picture all over the internet has been pretty cool, but actually meeting her was way better. I would definitely go meet her again.

Caleb: My friends and family all can’t believe it. Everyone is shocked that the picture of us and Taylor has made it this far. I am constantly getting texts from my friends telling me of a new place they found the picture on line. They have been just as excited as we have been trying to find every website we are on.

UCB: What do you think about Taylor’s attitude to her fans?

Eric: I think her attitude is great. She treats everyone so nice and she makes them feel special. She’s very down to earth. Once I got over my shock of actually meeting her it felt like being around one of my friends. Except she’s better looking. I’d love to meet her again.

Caleb: Taylor’s attitude toward her fans is amazing. Even though she is a huge star, she still takes time to talk and care about her fans. When we met her, she was so kind to everyone and was just an awesome person to be around. She doesn’t act like she’s better than anyone, and genuinely shows her appreciation for the support of her fans. Meeting her was by far the best part of my summer and I would do anything to do it again. Already bought tickets to her concert in Chicago!

UCB: What do Taylor’s songs mean to you?

Caleb: What I like about her songs is that she writes them all and they’re about real things. Even though girls can relate more to her songs, it’s still cool because they’re about things all teenagers see among our friends and experience ourselves. Her songs are also a good “what not to do to a girl guideline.”

Eric: her songs are about things that happen to people our age. Since she’s a girl (obviously), she writes from a girl’s point of view. Because of that I have a better understanding about girls. Like Caleb says, her songs are a good “what not to do to a girl” guide. If someone is going to write a song about me I want it to be a good song; kind of like “You Belong With Me”.

UCB: How do you see Taylor’s songs influencing teenagers and young adults for the better?

Robin: I think her songs have a very positive influence on young people (and those of us young at heart). Music in general can be very powerful. It has the ability to make us feel better; it can make us sad; it can make us angry, it can make us think. Taylor’s music tells stories about things that most all of us go through at one time or another.. It helps people express their emotions. They hear her songs and think, “that’s exactly what I am going through!” But here is the beautiful person singing about it and she’s made it through, so it gives people hope that they will as well. Young people can really relate to her.

UCB: What was your first reaction when you the YES on the t-shirts?

Robin: My first reaction was relief. I was so glad that the guys got to meet her because I knew how much it meant to them. Then I laughed – Taylor has a sense of humor.

UCB: Would you be happy to have Taylor as your daughter-in-law?

Robin: Oh sure. I want a daughter-in-law who is kind, warm, caring, and intelligent. She also needs a sense of humor. While I don’t know Taylor personally, she does come across as having all those qualities. But since Eric is only 18 I would hope to see those traits in a girlfriend for a few years first. :)

UCB: Thank you for answering our questions!
