A new, innovative development company, RareSpark Media Group, has opened its doors in Nashville and signed its first artists.

The press release has all the details:

Suzanne Strickland and Scot Sherrod announced today the official grand opening of RareSpark Media Group, lnc., a company focused on developing and nurturing musical talent for the entertainment industry. Understanding that the relationship between them and the songwriter is a true partnership, the company is utilizing a new model, blurring the lines between publishing, production, development and management.

RareSpark’s first signings are: songwriter/producer Jon McElroy (Lee Brice’s “Happy Endings” and “Upper Middle Class White Trash,” Neal McCoy’s “The Shake,” Patty Loveless’ “She Drew A Broken Heart” and Chely Wright’s “She Went Out For Cigarettes”); 2010 CCMA Female Artist and Songwriter of the Year Victoria Banks (Sara Evans’ “Saints & Angels,” Jessica Simpson’s “Come on Over” and “Remember That”); singer-songwriter/producer Jim Reilley (formerly of The New Dylans and cuts by artists such as Vince Gill, Hal Ketchum, Jack Ingram, Claudia Church, Tim O’Brien and Sam Bush); and songwriter E Marlowe (former winner of the CMT/NSAI song contest).

Scot Sherrod says, “We are forging ahead in this ever-evolving industry, continually finding new ways to help the songwriter develop, build, and manage their career – constantly striving to increase their brand, building enterprises for each individual that will financially sustain them through their art.”

“Our deals will fundamentally be the same for every songwriter as far as ownership, but we will tailor every deal from a creative perspective to meet the needs of each individual,” said Suzanne Strickland. “Being based in Nashville, the epicenter of songwriting, is important to us. However, we are passionate about coming up with new and innovative ways of marketing our songwriters in the industry and the marketplace without limiting ourselves geographically, or with regard to platform and genre”.

Sherrod has been appointed as VP/GM of the company, overseeing day-to-day operations. The past three years, he has represented, produced, composed and/or performed works licensed in various theatrical trailers, and movies including Zombieland and Bounty Hunter (Columbia Pictures), Knight and Day and Airbender (Paramount), Green Lantern and Lost Boys III (Warner Brothers), as well as a national ad for Volvo. Prior to that, Sherrod spent 12 years at Major Bob Music, Inc. and two years at Muy Bueno Music Group, moving through the ranks from catalog manager to senior creative director, generating hits by Kenny Chesney (I Lost It & There Goes My Life), The Dixie Chicks (A Home), Blaine Larsen (I Don’t Know What She Said), and cuts from George Strait, Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, Lee Brice, Trace Adkins, Sara Evans, Trisha Yearwood and Diamond Rio. Sherrod produced the top 40 single “Always Wanting More” on Lane Turner (Warner Nashville) and co-produced George Canyon’s chart-breaking album Somebody Wrote Love (Universal Canada), which garnered both Juno Awards and ECCMA’s for Album, Single and Video of the Year. He also had the distinct honor in pitching the mega history-making hit “More Than A Memory” (Lee Brice, Kyle Jacobs, Billy Montana: Curb Music Publishing) to Garth Brooks.

Owner/CEO, Suzanne Strickland brings to this new venture 10 years as a songwriter, 12 years as an independent touring artist in Contemporary Christian music, and 10 years as director of operations for A&M Recovery Services, Inc., a mortgage field services company.

“Running a successful family-owned business has taught me a great deal, and I aim to bring many of those business principles and philosophies to this new venture,” said Strickland. “Since I’m a songwriter myself, I bring a unique perspective to the company, and know how important it is to have an atmosphere that fosters creativity,” continued Strickland. “Scot and I both love music and working with songwriters, so it is exciting to wake up every morning and say ‘I get to go to work today’. I am really looking forward to seeing the company grow and evolve into what it will be.”
