At the 2012 Billboard Touring Awards, rock and country took home the big titles. Presented earlier tonight at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City during a ceremony hosted by comedienne Sandra Bernhard, the awards recognize the most successful artists, venues, and touring industry professionals.
Top Package, for the top-grossing tour featuring three or more artists, went to Brothers of the Sun Tour, the hugely successful roadtrip for Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Jake Owen and Grace Potter. The quartet beat out Taylor Swift‘s Speak Now Tour and Jason Aldean‘s My Kinda Party Tour, and this marks the 8th win in this category for Chesney. In addition, Chesney was also honored with the Road Warrior Award, presented by Shell Rotella. High praise indeed, the award “recognizes touring work ethic, dedication to bringing a high level of professionalism and artistic integrity to every show.”
Pop-country trio Lady Antebellum picked up the Breakthrough Award which goes to “an artist still in its first decade of headlining that breaks into the ranks of the top tours for the first time.”
Top Tour went to Roger Waters, whose tour manager, Mark Fenwick, was crowned Top Manager. Top Draw was awarded to Bruce Springsteen, who played to the largest number of fans during the eligibility period.
