“I know y’all don’t know who we are,” Drake White joked before beginning his thirty-minute set at the first ever Delta Country Jam in Tunica, MS.

Maybe he was correct, but one thing is for certain. You’ll know Drake White and The Big Fire soon enough.

Don’t let his hipsteresque facade fool you. Drake is as country as they come. The Alabama native grew up writing songs, picking the guitar, and singing in his church choir. His music is raw. It’s honest.

I’m not the biggest fan of comparing artists. However, if obligated, I’d say Drake’s style is Zac Brown Band meets The Lumineers. Not the worst comparison in the world, right?

His hit song ‘The Simple Life’ made its presence known on Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart and, simply put, it’s all kinds of good. I, for one, cannot stop listening.

“How many of y’all were born about ‘Fifty Years Too Late’?” Drake asked the audience prior to belting out his next single. Drake seems to be an old soul. Perhaps that’s why he’s putting the country back into country music.

Not only is Drake a talent, but his presentation is fiery. During his performance of ‘Cold Beer With My Name On It,’ he accepted an audience member’s beer and, without hesitation, took a chug. Stage presence is crucial and Drake’s got it.

Also incredibly worth mentioning is Drake’s fiddler, Samuel Damewood. He added some serious Charlie Daniels-level fiddling to the mix, bowing so hard that he broke a string or two. No big deal, he just kept right on bowing. Truthfully, the entire band is great.

Things are picking up for Drake White and The Big Fire and there’s no sign of them slowing down. Drake will be playing in Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia during the latter part of this month.

Catch him live, shake his hand, and enjoy seeing the band perform in a somewhat intimate setting. I’m willing to bet that it won’t be too long before that won’t be so easy. This guy is going to be big.
