Raised twenty minutes away from Liverpool, home of The Beatles, Chris Lucas was simply destined to become a musician. But, who would have guessed he’d fall in love with country music?

It was during a visit to his family in the States when he first heard the likes of Garth Brooks, John Michael Montgomery, and Alan Jackson.

At that time in England, dance music, techno, and hip hop were all the rage. So when Chris learned that country stars were playing their own instruments, he was completely captivated.

“Actually, for a brief period during the nineties, Country Music Television was broadcasted in England. They canceled it within six months, probably because I was the only one watching,” Chris joked.

That was it. Chris had been inspired and began searching for his sound – the sound that would define him as an artist. “At first I had this cheesy southern accent, but, over the years, I found my own voice.”

Finding that voice has led Chris down a road of triumphs. He is a talented solo artist, a gifted songwriter, and, last but not least, the touring bassist for Grammy-winning group Shenandoah. Yes, this guy is multi-talented.

“Playing with Shenandoah has been a dream come true for me,” Chris said fondly of the band.

A dream come true indeed, but the gig also offers him the opportunity to promote his solo work.

“In the middle of their show, they introduce me and walk off stage. They tell the audience, ‘He’s got a project coming out,’ and let me do a few songs.”

Although Chris’ music has country undertones, there is no particular genre that can accurately describe his sound. His songwriting could go Corey Smith, it could go Mumford & Sons, or, hey, it could go Ed Sheeran.

‘Play it Loud’ is a personal favorite because Chris says that he didn’t write the song for anyone but himself. He didn’t write it for a record label or with an artist in mind. It’s strictly from heart to paper.

“When the world tries to bring me down I just take the needle, rest it on my favorite record, and play it loud.”

Listen to ‘Play it Loud’ for yourself.

Like what you hear? Tell Chris. He’d love to hear from you.

Be sure to give Chris Lucas and Shenandoah a “like” on Facebook while you’re at it.
