A few months ago, Today Show host Hoda Kotb visited Nashville and did what every visitor should do – she took in a songwriters round at the Bluebird Café. During the round, she was so impressed by Paul Sikes‘ songs – stating one of them brought her to tears – that the writer found himself getting invited to fly out to New York City to perform live on the Today Show. On July 13, he was introduced to the show’s massive audience and played his beautiful song, ‘My Epitaph.’ He subsequently saw his independently released album, Craft, climb to #2 on the iTunes singer/songwriter album chart.

Beyond this being truly wonderful for Sikes, this is also a huge advertisement for the Bluebird Café itself. You see, I have never not been moved to tears at least once during a round there. Kotb could “discover” a massively talented writer every week. (I’m just trying to imagine what her reaction would be if she witnessed a performance by Phil Barton, Jeanne Petersen, or Rick Huckaby…)
