After a steady rise and the #1 success of ‘Somethin’ ’bout a Truck,’ Kip Moore is looking to solidify his status with new single, ‘Beer Money.’
In this story of small-town escapism, we find him at the start of the weekend, armed with the titular cash, seeking to convince his girl to misbehave while trying to stay on the right side of the law – ‘every now and then you gotta raise a little hell/hope we get lucky and stay out of jail.’
There is not much of a story being told here; this song survives on style rather than substance. With a pop-leaning melody, ‘Beer Money’ is built on its relaxed groove. It fits perfectly with Moore’s laid-back, gravelly vocal. The third part of the equation is the modern, southern rock arrangement. While guitar-heavy, it stays out of the way enough to not overpower and let the song move along at no faster a pace than it needs to.
Hitting the radio waves nearer the end of summer, ‘Beer Money’ will be a getaway tune when life returns to a busier schedule.
