Single Review: How She Rolls – Chase Rice

Having just released his first full-length project, Dirt Road Communion, Chase Rice also sent a new summer single, ‘How She Rolls,’ to country radio.
The song is an ode to laid-back, carefree country girls and, in line with current trends, uses most of the descriptors you have come to expect. But, setting it apart from many others, we get details about the girl, like the sticker on her car and the necklace she wears, turning this into a charming description which lets the girl be just who she is. She is a person, not just something to look at. (Music Row writers, learn from this!)
The unimaginative production, though, is not doing Rice any favors. His voice can sound much better than this, and I suspect this song pops much more in a live show. It has a good melody and solid groove so it’s a shame the guitar-driven track is left a little bland.
‘How She Rolls’ is not trying to be groundbreaking, it’s accessible contemporary country, and, for summer radio, it works.
