Single Review – I Do, But Do I – Katie Armiger

Katie Armiger’s breezy, catchy, girly-girl, single, ‘I Do, But Do I,’  just hit the summertime airwaves of country music radio. Co-written by Rhean Boyer (of Carolina Rain), and featured as a new single on the upcoming deluxe edition of Katie’s “Confessions of a Nice Girl” album, this tune is certainly age appropriate coming from a barely-out-of-her teens Armiger.  While the lyrics speak about the uncertainties and abilities (or lack thereof) to recognize true love, they also tend to be geared towards those who are not so quite self assured, in general … “In case you haven’t noticed / I’ve been waiting on you / to tell me if I’m living up to your expectations /….   I think I do  / I think I do / …. / I think I do but do I…”   A word of caution here ladies, please don’t wait on a man to confirm your importance!

Poor lyrics aside (including the fact that the chorus will taunt your mind for days), the maturity of Katie’s vocals are well beyond her years. She combines a gritty, bluesy sound with an innocent charm, somewhat reminiscent of Bonnie Raitt. Based on vocals alone, it would really surprise me if Katie wasn’t going to be around for a long time.
