North Carolina native and Average Joe’s Entertainment artist, Matt Stillwell,  is set to release his first single ‘Ignition’ from his upcoming sophmore album. Available for radio requests on February 28th, ‘Ignition’ is your standard “how does one move on from a heartbreak” country song. Relating this type of heartache to driving a car on the highway in the rain and needing to pull over and have a good cry is … well, it is cliche at best.

It’s getting hard to see the road /Rain drowning out the radio
One wiper doing double time /Coffee cold, gas is low
These miles keep getting me nowhere /She’s there no matter where I go
And the night keeps coming on /And the night keeps coming on

Sometimes you gotta pull the car over /To the side of the highway
Break down, kill the motor and cry /Sometimes you gotta try to keep living
Put the key in the ignition /And start your life over again

Matt’s vocals don’t appear to have the conviction needed to convince the listener he is invested in the song. When that becomes apparent, the song falls flat. My suggestion is that Matt put his key in the ignition and drive off and leave this song behind. I believe he can do better!
