Songwriters: Kimberly Perry, Reid Perry, Neil Perry, Jeff Cohen and Kara DioGuardi.

With back-to-back #1 chart success, The Band Perry is lifting a fifth single off their self-titled debut album. ‘Postcard from Paris’ takes on the challenge of continuing the winning streak.

With a spin on a ‘the love that never was’-story, the song tells of a lovesick girl’s despair. Having caught a glimpse of her perfect guy, while she was with another man, leaves her wondering if she will find happiness again. Having seen perfection, she ponders, any other guy will be merely a reflection – just like a postcard photograph of your favorite vacation spot. Unlike a travel destination, this perfect love is out of her reach:
But it’s the never knowing that keeps this going/And drives me crazy
Like a postcard from Paris/When I’ve seen the real thing

Kimberly’s vocals are, as ever, impressive. She imbues the character with enough wistfulness but never makes her sound pitiful. The mostly acoustic arrangement is a perfect fit, keeps your attention on the voice, and by extension on the story.

When they first arrived on the country music scene with the lighthearted ‘Hip to my Heart,’ I described The Band Perry as one of the freshest new artists in the genre. Barely two years on, they are a household name and it is thanks to quality material such as this. ‘Postcard from Paris’ should have no problem becoming the trio’s next #1.
