Single Review: ‘Starshine’ – Sweetwater Rain

New Curb recording quartet, Sweetwater Rain, launches itself at country radio with first single, ‘Starshine.’
‘Even if the sky is falling/it only means heaven’s come down,’ the male lead reassures his new love in this sweet encouragement story. Resting on a subdued bass line, the soft-rock arrangement borrows a little from the modern Texas country sound. In contrast to many contemporary country-rock songs which rely on their loudness to get your attention, instruments are kept out of the way to better showcase the wonderful voices of singer-songwriters Danny Rivera and Ruth Collins. Their performances make this track the solid single that it is.
This new group, completed by guitarist Fred Stallcup and bassist Thomas Hewlett, could have a very bright future in a format which feels ready to move away from the rock bombast of the last few years.
‘Starshine’ will impact radio on October 22, and I hope to see it enjoy a successful chart run.
Check out the live version of ‘Starshine’ when Sweetwater Rain stopped by WRDM 102.1 recently.
