Single Review – You Lie – The Band Perry

After a light, poppy debut single (‘Hip to My Heart’) and a serious follow-up (‘If I Die Young’), The Band Perry will soon be releasing their third single, ‘You Lie.’

Written by another family trio, The Henningsens (made up of Aaron, Brian, Clara Henningsen), ‘You Lie’ is a good old fashioned break-up song about breaking free from a natural born liar. The lyrics come with some angry straight talk – I ought to kill you right now and do the whole wide world a service – and a dose of whimsy – You lie like a coon dog basking in the sunshine on my porch.

The fiddle-heavy arrangement sits on a base of acoustic guitar and has an unconventional stop-start motion. The song allows Kimberly to show off her vocal talent and explore her lower and upper register while her brothers once again provide solid harmonies.

‘You Lie’ is a solid up-beat country song which should do extremely well at radio and continue the rise of The Band Perry.
