MusicRow, Nashville’s foremost industry publication, has announced the nominees for the 24th Annual MusicRow Awards. The magazine’s editorial team selected their picks in four categories, with outside nominations also excepted for the Breakthrough Songwriter category. MusicRow readers will now decide the winners who will be honored on June 20.

Given how much I have supported Keith Urban‘s recent #1 hit, ‘You Gonna Fly,’ and especially its songwriters Preston Brust and Chris Lucas of LoCash Cowboys, and Jaren Johnston of The Cadillac Black, I am very happy to see this creative trio among the Breakthrough Songwriter nominees. Congratulations guys! And this great song is not done bringing good news to its writers…

Other names I am pleased to see in this list: Ryan Tyndell, who co-wrote ‘Springsteen’ and was recently featured in a Songwriters Circle interview here; Eric Paslay, one of my favorite Nashville writers who has a wealth of material much stronger than the song Jake Owen took to #1 so keep an eye on him; Phil Barton, who is hopefully at the start of a long line of #1 hits; and Kip Moore who has a wonderful way with stories and has just delivered a great debut record, Up All Night.
