Craig Morgan has developed a wide, and widely successful, repertoire of songs about southern living, and he adds to that with his new single, ‘More Trucks than Cars.’
As with all the songs on his latest album, This Ole Boy, Morgan sounds fantastic. This is the type of lyric which fits him really well. Yes, it is yet another ode to the simpler life in the country, but it is built up with clever, short phrases which paint a picture of ‘water tower, power lines/swimmin’ holes, rusty old RC Cola signs/and county fairs’.
Amid the more rock and pop oriented singles of late, this sounds refreshingly ‘country.’ With a helping of fiddle and steel weaving in and out in the backdrop, this is the perfect soundtrack as Morgan takes your through the southern scenery.
Only one point, I would have liked to have seen a little more done with the title line. ‘More trucks than cars’ is such a great descriptive phrase, and it seems underused sitting there by itself as a stand-alone line. It kind of feels like they wrote the chorus in reverse, where they held that back as the final line and then wrote the rest to go before it.
With summer over and everyone getting back in to their commuting routine, ‘More Trucks than Cars’ will add some southern comfort to your drive time radio playlist.
