If you are a songwriter and an artist decides to cut one of your compositions, you know you’ve already beaten the odds. To then have then have the song chart is a bit like the lottery, and the chances of it hitting #1, well they’re astronomically small. Songwriters who achieve this once already deserve much praise but the ones who manage this three times inside a year, well, they get their own award.

At the recent annual CMA Songwriters Luncheon those who penned the most country chart toppers were honored with a Triple Play Award. Special mention goes to Zac Brown and Dallas Davidson, who with six #1 songs each, picked up two awards.

“This occasion affords CMA the opportunity to honor true creators,” said CMA Board President-Elect Troy Tomlinson, President and CEO, Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville, in the press release. “These exceptional songwriters begin every song with a blank page. They proceed to create something out of thin air that moves us. That’s magical. That’s why we love and honor songwriters. They put into words and music what the rest of us feel but can’t articulate.”

Steve Moore, CMA Chief Executive Officer added: “Nashville is legendary for its songwriters and their ability to convey the triumphs and tragedies of everyday life. CMA is honored to award some of these songwriters for this amazing accomplishment and their contributions to our format.”
