‘Hey Pretty Girl’ Becomes Kip Moore’s Fastest Rising Single at Country Radio

In the first few weeks of release, Kip Moore‘s ‘Hey Pretty Girl’ has become his fastest growing single to date with 100 stations now spinning this gorgeous song. Following the chart-topping success of ‘Somethin’ ’bout a Truck’ and ‘Beer Money’ with another #1 hit is a distinct possibility. At the time of writing, ‘Hey Pretty Girl,’ which was penned by Moore and Dan Couch, sits at #26 on both the Billboard Country Airplay chart and the Mediabase Country Songs chart, and #33 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

But here’s an interesting thing, if you are a little geeky about music as I am. The radio research for this song is not returning enthusiastic results. On the Callout America chart, it’s ranked last in its list of 35 songs. For comparison, Chris Young‘s ‘I Can Take it from There,’ which tops this chart, received 39.8% ‘total passion,’ 81% ‘positive’, and only 5.8% ‘dislike’ from the listeners who were surveyed. ‘Hey Pretty Girl’ gets only 16.7% in ‘total passion’, 53.7% in ‘positive’ and 10.3% in ‘dislike.’ Many songs get a much higher percentage in ‘dislike’ but it seems that ‘Hey Pretty Girl’‘s problem is the 34.7% in the ‘neutral’ category, the highest of the 35 songs listed.

I don’t get it.

Last week at CRS, I watched Kip Moore rehearse for the New Faces of Country Music show. There were only about 20 people in the room, and they were all busy getting things ready. That is until Moore picked up his acoustic guitar and started playing ‘Hey Pretty Girl.’ By the end of the first verse, the hall was silent and everyone just stood there and watched him. Not everyone will agree about this song, of course, but I have heard enough reactions to this song that the Callout responses puzzle me.

Still, country radio programmers seem to be on board and will hopefully keep supporting the song, regardless of the Callout results. I wish I had more time to really analyze radio research and figure out how it all works, but for now, all I want to see is this great song continuing its chart climb.

Check out what some at country radio had to say about ‘Hey Pretty Girl’:

“From an album of great songs, this sounds like nothing else on the radio.” – Nate Deaton, KRTY

“When Kip performed for us the very first time and played ‘Hey Pretty Girl,’ I got chills. With 2 smashes under his belt, this song truly shows his depth as an artist.”- Mike Preston, KKWF

“‘Up All Night’ hands down is one of the best CD’s I’ve heard in years. ‘Hey Pretty Girl’ from Kip is just another great song from this project…”- Tom Hanrahan, WDXB

“I have not yet met a woman or girl who does not absolutely LOVE these lyrics. Seriously. I wish I had written them. So does my wife. This is a giant, obvious, big ol’ hit record.” – Gregg Swedberg, KEEY

“‘Hey Pretty Girl’ shows that Kip Moore has staying power in this format.” – Christi Brooks, KKBQ

Kip Moore will be spending much of 2013 on the road. He continues to headline his own dates and will also join Brantley Gilbert and Toby Keith this summer.
