Ok, let’s try something new for UCN – publishing live updates from a live show! Tonight, Rick Huckaby and his band are rocking club 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville and I will attempt to post live updates.

This is a test and if it works well, we will try to do this more often!

Here we go!

10:46 pm – ‘Broken Promiseland’ opens the show! A pretty full room (standing room only!) reacts as they should, with a warm welcome applause!

10:55 pm – I feel the need to dance to ‘Nothing but a Thing’; seriously funky tune!

10:58 pm – There’s a guy at the bar, he was drunk when I got here 2 hours ago, and he seems to now have abandoned his drink to listen. So it must be good! :)

11:00 pm – ‘Saving Savannah’… Awesome tune, recently recorded by Tracy Lawrence.

11:02 pm – Joined by the fabulous Jeanne Richardson. Always a pleasure listening to her.

11:08 pm – Todd Woolsey is kicking ass on guitar!

11:10 pm – You know people, I know I am repeating myself but you really need to see these guys play live to believe just how good they really are….. And Jack Gavin is one heck of a drummer!

11:14 pm – ‘Lies Little Lies’… I put this song on repeat sometimes when I go for my 3-mile run. But this evening there’s just dancing to be done!

11:17 pm – Rick: “That was my ‘I hate you’ song, now I’m gonna play the ‘I love you’ song” – a sappy one… ;) ‘Tell Me Again’

11:20 pm – You know, I actually liked that. Oh dear. :)

11:22 pm – Acoustic interlude! ‘In My Room’, aka “the cutest song ever”! Check out a video of it elsewhere on this website.

*edit* The only thing which didn’t work on the night was adding in video. ‘From the Inside Out’, co-written with Lee Thomas Miller and recorded by Tracy Lawrence, here in an almost intact version. :)

11:39 pm – The band is back on stage. Woolsey playing one of his own songs and burning up that guitar!

11:41 pm – Oops. Messed up the lyrics of the first verse of ‘I Got You Covered’. Let’s see how he recovers…

11:42 pm – …with a big grin on his face as he realizes what he did and by then playing on like nothing is wrong, you know, like the pros do it. :)

11:48 pm – ‘Hittin’ My Stride’. I swear this song actually gets better every time I hear it… (go to www.rickhuckaby.com, the song will start playing and you can hear what all the fuss is about!)

11:50 pm – The introduction to ‘Can’t Miss Kid’ was hilarious. There is SO much energy in the room right now! Pause from writing. Need to DANCE!

11:56 pm – Still going strong! ‘She Gets Me High’, now this is my kind of love song!! ;)

Midnight! – ‘Sing it to You’, a funkier, heavier version than on the record; not bad at all for a ‘sappy’ love song (sorry, Rick!) ;)

12:08 am – ‘My Bad’ Best. Version. Ever.

12:11 am – I am having so much fun right now!! ‘Mash the Gas’!!! *dances*

12:12 am – Can’t believe how late it is. I think I will be paying a visit to Starbucks tomorrow. Possibly more than one…!

12:16 am – Still no sign of slowing down! ‘Digging at My Scars’ = time to dance again…

12:20 am – ‘Hot Legs’. I didn’t think these guys could rock any harder but…yep!

12:23 am – Last song… ‘Call Me Huck’. It’s such a cliche but I really don’t want this show to end!

12:28 am – Wow. Just…wow.

That. Was. Awesome…

Ladies and gentlemen, Rick Huckaby knows how to play a live show. This performance was just off the hook. I have said it several times before on these pages but here is some great material from an artist who really is exceptional. I just can’t help but praise him up one side and down the other!

Great, great show! And the live update thing actually worked out better than I thought it would. Please let me know in the comments what you thought of this experiment, what worked and what didn’t.

Now for finding the next show to report from…
