He may not stand very tall, but Justin Moore’s Off the Beaten Path tour is big. I reviewed his latest album when it dropped and I severely regret being hard on it at all. Aside from the fact that he puts on a good show and can actually sing (I’m looking at you, Luke Bryan), Moore’s family man status and humility make it impossible to not like him.

When Moore took the stage last Saturday in Southaven, MS, he opened with ‘Off the Beaten Path’ and followed with his latest hits, ‘Point at You’ and ‘Lettin’ the Night Roll’ and of course the oldies-but-goodies ‘Backwoods’ and ‘Bait a Hook’.

Sporting his trademark cowboy hat, he riled up the audience with chatter about guns, hunting, booze and being conservative. But, what’s more, he talked a lot about his wife and kids and about how grateful he was for his fans and their support.

As an artist who tends to fly under the radar, Moore has finally been getting the credit he deserves. He had his first awards show appearance at the American Country Awards in December and he’s up for the Academy of Country Music Awards New Artist of the Year. Kind of ironic since Moore had hit songs back in 2009, but he’ll take it.

Overall, the show was great. Moore has a ton of energy and knows how to interact with the crowd. His band ain’t so bad either. For an added personal touch, Moore took a minute to pay tribute to his grandmother by singing her favorite hymn, ‘Beulah Land’.

Also worth mentioning is Justin’s main opener, Randy Houser, who put on a killer show as well. Every song Houser releases is a hit, so he’s definitely a must-see act as well. Moore and Houser – not a bad combination if I do say so myself.

Moore brings his Off the Beaten Path tour to Wisconsin tonight and he hits the road again tomorrow with a show in Springfield, IL. He’ll continue on through spring, so find out if he’ll be near you.

Also, be sure to vote for Justin as ACM’s New Artist of the Year. You can cast your vote here.
