I remember being a nine-year-old girl, riding around in the front seat of my uncle’s car after he picked me up from school, as he did most days. He always had the radio turned up and tuned in to our local country station. We’d usually listen to Brooks & Dunn, Deana Carter, or LeAnn Rimes. But on this particular day the disc jockey played something really special. Something I’d never heard before. It was Tim McGraw’s “I Like It, I Love It” and I’ve liked him – better yet I’ve loved him – ever since.

Fast forward about twenty years and it’s the same scene. Only this time I’m twenty-eight years old, behind the wheel, and driving up Interstate 55 to watch Tim sing that beloved song in person. Now I get excited about most concerts I attend, but it’s a completely different level of excitement when you’re about to witness the performance of someone whose music you grew up on. To me, Tim is a legend.

At the pre-show, he performed three acoustic songs to a group of about fifty-or-so people. Before the set, he even took a few minutes to answer questions from the audience. I couldn’t tell you what songs he performed. I was so befuddled by the fact that I was mere feet from Tim McGraw that I forgot to take notes. Honestly, I didn’t even remember to take photos. I simply lived in the moment. Isn’t that the best way to enjoy a concert?

A few hours later, Tim took to the main stage. The entire amphitheater and adjoining lawn was jam-packed with screaming fans. I had the privilege of watching from the front of the stage. It was a bit surreal looking behind me and seeing such a mass of people and explosion of camera flashes.

Combine Tim’s stellar performance with his charming smile, superb audience interaction, and ripped physique and you’ve got one fantastic show. I had to mention the physique. I mean, come on.

Tim performed newer hits such as “One of Those Nights” and “Lookin’ for That Girl” along with all of the greats including “Something Like That” and, of course, my personal favorite “I Like It, I Love It.” You know, that same tune I used to listen to all those years ago in my uncle’s car. And, not to be cheesy, but thanks to Tim it most definitely was “one of those nights.”

Tim continues his tour on through the summer. Check out his official dates here.
