Texas country duo Rosehill spent last Saturday in Franklin, TN filming the video for new single, ‘Did You Ever Turn Around.’ The story played out all over the pretty town and footage of the duo (Blake Myers and Mitch McBain) was shot at the YEG studios.

The song came to them late in the album recording process via their producer Jay Clementi, who wrote the song with Jedd Hughes. “We had been looking for something with the message of Garth Brooks’ ‘Unanswered Prayers’,” explained Myers, and McBain added, “we are about ten years out of high school and sometimes wonder what if we had ever turned around with someone from back then. We’d probably not be playing music.”

The video concept portrays a couple’s story all the way to breaking up, but it is a chance meeting years later that provides the spark for the song’s ‘what if’ message. With acting not their chosen path, does a day like this feel strange? “It feels weird being in a video,” laughed McBain. “You’re just singing to yourself really, nobody is mic’d up, guitars aren’t plugged in, and everything kind of sounds bad.” “But it is a fun process,” added Myers, “we got to watch the whole day and got to see everything come together.”

What will they remember most from this shoot? “The fight scene!,” the reply came in unison. Myers explained, “My favorite scene is the fight scene when they portrayed the breakup. Our actors were completely awkward with each other during the cuddling scenes and the relationship part.” He then added laughing, “but I think it says something a little bit about human nature that when they got to the argument scene, no one was uncomfortable and it just came easy!”

‘Did You Ever Turn Around’ was taken from Rosehill’s sophomore album, Crooked Thoughts, produced by Clementi and Radney Foster. For more information, please visit www.rosehillcountry.com.
