After a long delay, perhaps RCA was waiting for hot summer days, Sara Evans has released new single ‘Anywhere’ to country radio.

In the middle of mundane, everyday tasks, we have all thought “Let’s just jump in the car and escape.” On ‘Anywhere,’ we find a couple longing for a more carefree existence, and at the supermarket check-out making plans to do just that. Hit-the-highway-songs are not exactly rare, and this doesn’t add anything groundbreaking to that catalogue of tunes, but the scene being set is sufficient to make this work. Steering clear of most roadtrip clichés, Sara’s brother Matt Evans and Jaren Johnston still use car imagery to full effect on clear lines like Don’t want to sit on the side of the road/watch my dreams pass me by/I’m sick of living life in Park/I want to live it in Drive.’

The breezy banjo-infused arrangement compliments the lyrics, the melody and the vocals. And that’s what lifts this above solid-but-not-great: Sara’s performance. She is given all the space she wants and, as she knows her way around a good melody, simply shines on the choruses.

If country radio jumps on board with her, ‘Anywhere’ could bring Sara Evans a solid Top 30 hit.
