Single Review – ‘Family Man’ – Craig Campbell

One of the staples of Country Music has long been the song about the hard-working man looking after his family. Often those songs get drenched in such sentimentality that the message all but disappears. As with any theme that’s often visited, the songwriting has to be top-notch. None of these are issues on Craig Campbell‘s new single ‘Family Man’.

Hailing from south Georgia, Craig has been playing music since the age of 7 and made the jump to Nashville in 2002. In 2008, he found himself ‘discovered’ by top producer Keith Stegall in the legendary The Stage on Lower Broadway.

In true Alan Jackson style, ‘Family Man’ is a very traditional tune with enough timeless quality that it will fit on contemporary country radio. The story features a man who struggles through hard part-time work shifts hoping for more job security so he can continue to provide for his family and is highly relatable. The song also contains some inventive writing; instead of ‘I helped the kids with their homework’, it goes ‘there’s how many times does 17 go into 52’.

Craig recently released his debut EP and with more traditional material on the up again in the charts, the future looks bright for this ‘Family Man’
