Singer-songwriter Eric Paslay had a spectacular year. On top of releasing his first two singles, he co-wrote three of the year’s #1 hits earning him a CMA Triple Play songwriters award. He is now releasing his new single, ‘Friday Night.’

The song will be familiar to Lady Antebellum fans as it was included on the trio’s Own the Night album. It is built on the simple idea of a lover trying to convey that he wants to be the promise of carefree fun. That sentiment gets translated into catchy, radio-friendly lines like ‘I wanna be your Friday night, sweet ride / Summertime, sunshine, barefoot in the moonlight’

While I feel that he can’t deploy his unique vocal quality as effectively when he has to stay in a lower register, here, it all the more makes the choruses pop. ‘Friday Night’ is a sweet song that doesn’t need any bombast and the arrangement wisely relies mainly on the beat, while a gorgeous banjo line adds sparkle.

On first listen, ‘Friday Night,’ felt a little light. But repeated listens, especially while I was driving through the pretty Tennessee countryside on a sunny day, have elevated this to a contender to be one of this year’s feel-good summer hits.

‘Friday Night’ will impact radio on April 22.
