‘Honk (If You’re Tonky)’ is the first single off of a debut album from Joshua Scott Jones. Although it’s Jones’ first solo album, he’s no stranger to country music. You may recognize him as the second half of once-duo Steel Magnolia.

After a called-off engagement from Steel Magnolia band mate Meghan Linsey, the two continued to tour together but finally decided to part ways and pursue solo careers sometime last year.

Jones’ solo artistry is definitely different from that of Steel Magnolia, but just the right amount of different. What once was a softer, more commercial sound has been somewhat aligned with a defined edginess. Perhaps a solo career is allowing Joshua Scott Jones to, well, bloom.

“I’m dancing to a tune that no one else hears,” Jones croons in the first verse. If you’ve followed Steel Magnolia over the years, you’re aware that Jones battled with drug addiction and spent some time in a rehabilitation facility to combat his demons. The title of his upcoming album, The Healing, hints that it’s going to be a very personal album.

Over the past few years, life has handed Jones more than enough material for songwriting. He may, in fact, be dancing to a different tune, but it’s one that audiences are excited to hear – especially Steel Magnolia fans.

Jones’ raw, bluesy sound might be unique compared to what country music listeners hear on the radio present day, but really it’s not so different at all. It’s actually a refreshing reminder of what country music used to be. It takes us back to its roots, while simultaneously Jones is planting his own.

The release date for Jones’ The Healing is fast approaching. The 11 track LP will be available on June 3 and Jones is supporting its release with a multitude of summer tour dates.
