Songwriter: Marc Scibilia

I discovered Marc Scibilia on accident and, mercy, what a wonderful accident. The 27-year-old singer-songwriter hails from New York, but makes his home in East Nashville.

His recently released EP, The Shape I’m In, is compromised of four songs including the title track, which is the song that really struck me.

“The four-song effort was streamed a week early by American Songwriter, who commented on its  ‘strummed guitars, analog grooves, some Bruce Springsteen-worthy melodies and his own husky croon-worthy melodies and his own husky croon.'”

Although Marc is labeled as American folk rock, ‘The Shape I’m In’ offers up a side serving of soul. Hey, I don’t like labels anyway. The combination of Marc’s smooth, but rugged, vocals and simple instrumentals give this tune a really groovin’ sound.

‘The Shape I’m In’ is about the difficulties one might experience while chasing a dream. I suppose that any dream could be applied. However, it seems that it specifically concerns being a musician. Marc’s voice tells the story of a lot of hard work, many ups and downs, and a fair share of relationship challenges.

To me, this song says, “I love what I do, but it’s not always easy.”

Well, what is easy is listening to Marc sing. So, why waste another minute? You can purchase the song or the entire EP on iTunes.
