Single Review: Wanted – Hunter Hayes

Songwriters:   Hunter Hayes, Troy Verges

There is no denying the musical talents that live and breathe within 20 year old musician and singer/songwriter, Hunter Hayes.  The love ballad, ‘Wanted,’ off his self-titled album, ‘Hunter Hayes,’ expresses a young man’s longing and love for his girl, with the desire to have her always know that she is the key to his heart. While we all want to know that we are loved and wanted, I find it hard to swallow lyrics that speak to one’s perceived loss of existence without the person they love.  Neediness is not the healthiest thing in any relationship.

“You know I’d fall apart without you / I don’t know how you do what you do
‘Cause everything that don’t make sense about me / Makes sense when I’m with you

That being said, Hunter’s “Rascal-esque” sounding voice and writing qualities infused in his lyrics will certainly serve him well while on the road with Rascal Flatts’, “Thaw Out 2012” tour this year. Not only will his exposure to the masses be guaranteed; but he will certainly be playing to the right audience.  Part of me wants to see him collaborate with Taylor Swift. While her songwriting skills are a significantly more clever, I think the two could probably write a lofty ballad together that young fans would drive up the charts.
