Tim McGraw will release his new album, Two Lanes of Freedom, his first with Big Machine Records, on February 5, 2013. The singer is excited about this project and after glancing at the track list, I can see why.

“I feel like I’ve progressed in my work, and I’ve always strived to get better,” says McGraw via the press release. “On my last album, I was discovering some new sounds and new things that I wanted to do, scratching the surface of the direction I wanted to head. This album was a way to reach a little further back, to all that I’d done throughout my career, and bring both sides together—it’s a combination of that discovery, along with some rediscovery.”

This is reflected in the songwriters associated with this album. McGraw cut songs by Music Row heavy-hitters like Luke Laird, Rodney Clawson, Tom Douglas, Josh Kear, James Slater and his longtime song-suppliers Brett and Brad Warren, but he also reached out to talents who have started to make their mark more recently including Jaren Johnston, Preston Brust, Chris Lucas, and Chris Janson.

It was Johnston, of country-rock trio The Cadillac Black, who co-wrote the title track; a song McGraw credits with having inspired the feel of the entire project. “When we cut ‘Two Lanes of Freedom,’ there was such a freshness to it,” he says. “The track has this sort of Gaelic drive to it and really sets a palette for the whole record because it’s so visual—it has that summery, hazy image and I think that made the whole record open up for me.”

One track that is bound to get extra attention is ‘Highway Don’t Care.’ The song features Keith Urban and Taylor Swift. While the song is technically the eleventh track, it is listed as track 13 in reference to Swift’s famous lucky number.

Two Lanes of Freedom will be released on February 5, 2013, and has already produced two hits, top 10 ‘Truck Yeah,’ and current single ‘One of those Nights,’ at #17 on the Mediabase chart and climbing.
